Vrijdag 16 oktober heeft de European Society for Education and Communication de Grand Award 2009 toegekend aan In Europa. Britta Hosman, een van de makers, nam namens de hele redactie van In Europa in Wenen de prijs in ontvangst.
Deze prijs wordt jaarlijks toegekend aan hoogwaardig multimediale- en media producties met specifieke aandacht voor Europese waarden in de sfeer van samenleving, cultuur, (volwassen) educatie en politieke vraagstukken met inbegrip van het publieke debat over integratie van minderheden, verzoening tussen bevolkingsgroepen en landen, het debat over ethische vraagstukken, religies, enzovoort.
De jury over In Europa:
“In Europe” is, what an educational media within the context of European self-reflection has to be like: a discourse on history as a history of discourses in order to discover critical reflection as an agency of mindful thoughts on what is possible if it is necessary. [...]
That is, what a public broadcaster is made for: VPRO, one of the most initiative and alternative public broadcasters in Europe, has taken the challenge and challenges in that way Europeans who maybe be about to forget or even to neglect the power of history. [...]
