Launch www.cityoneminutes.org
On June 5th, www.cityoneminutes.org will be officially launched. It is a joint initiative of the Dutch digital documentary channel Holland Doc 24 and The One Minutes foundation.
At www.cityoneminutes.org, artists living or briefly residing in over a hundred cities across the world reveal, in a contemporary way, how they experience city life. They make a one minute video for each hour of the day. Together, these twenty-four fragments form a collective art work, describing one city. Buildings, squares, cars, bicycles, people, money, poverty, order, chaos: a city is an organism, living twenty-four hours a day and changing every hour.
The site enables you to browse through places and times in a number of different ways. You could follow a full day in the life of Beijing, explore a city between 5 and 6 in the morning, watch all the videos in a mosaic of cities…. Like most cities in the world, www.cityoneminutes.org continues to grow and expend. Later on, it will be possible to rate the videos and also create your ideal ‘dream city’ by combining minutes from different locations. ‘Radio one minutes’ will also be available soon.
The launch of www.cityoneminutes.org coincides with the showing of eight city-portraits at the Venice Biennale. Introducing the City One Minutes project, the portraits can be seen at the Arsenale Novissimo from June 4th to July 19th.
City One Minutes is also part of Dutch broadcaster VPRO’s ‘Century of the City’: two weeks of radio and (digital) TV about life in the city, which will be presented in September. As part of this project, the digital channel Holland Doc 24 will show documentaries about cities, with the City One Minutes featuring prominently. A selection of the best City One Minutes will be shown at the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai.

Holland Doc 24 is the 24/7 digital documentary channel of the Dutch Broadcast Organization NPO. It is managed by broadcaster VPRO. It broadcasts documentaries on weekly themes. Most of these documentaries are around 50-minutes long, but in cooperation with The One Minutes foundation, Holland Doc 24 also broadcasts films of just a minute’s duration.
