Bregtje van der Haak is a documentary filmmaker, journalist and writer on contemporary culture. Since 1998, she has been directing international documentaries on social change, with a focus on urban life and globalization. Her documentaries have been shown on national television, in film festivals and in exhibitions around the world. As a creator, a project director and an acting editor-in-chief for VPRO television, she has initiated and developed innovative transmedia formats and collaborative projects including Metropolis TV and Urban Century. Van der Haak studied dance in Paris, political science and law at the University of Amsterdam and received a Master of Science from the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University in New York with a NAF/Fulbright scholarship. She is a board member of the Prince Claus Fund and the Erasmus Prize Foundation.

Currently, Van der Haak is a visiting associate professor at the School of Creative Media at City University of Hong Kong, on sabbatical leave from VPRO television. This blog contains notes of an ongoing personal research project into new technologies and immersive documentary storytelling.
